Job Summary

The Diagnostic Imaging Specialist - Mammography Technologist will produce high-quality breast imaging procedures while following established guidelines. This role involves performing screening, diagnostic, invasive, and DEXA scans according to protocols and procedures for interpretation by a supervising physician.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform all breast imaging and DEXA procedures.
  • Assist the radiologist in invasive breast procedures, ensuring aseptic technique and consent is obtained.
  • Correlate patient clinical history with procedure, ensuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed provider.
  • Select and operate breast imaging equipment and associated devices to achieve desired results.
  • Select appropriate radiographic technique exposure factors to produce quality diagnostic images.
  • Apply principles of radiation protection to minimize exposure to patient, self, and others.
  • Apply the principles of patient safety during all aspects of the mammographic procedures.
  • Provide patient education and discharge instructions.
  • Participate in the department's quality assessments and improvement plans.
Requirements
  • Certification and Registration in Mammography, ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) (preferred upon hire, or must obtain within six months of hire).
  • State Licensure (preferred, unless required by the state where the job is being performed).
  • BLS Basic Life Support – American Heart Association (preferred upon hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care).
Work Environment

This role may be exposed to high stress and fluctuating workloads, as well as physical altercations and verbal abuse. The individual in this position will be required to exercise universal precautions, use personal protective equipment and devices, and learn the policies concerning infection control.

Physical Requirements

The Diagnostic Imaging Specialist - Mammography Technologist will be required to perform tasks that involve lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling, as well as standing, walking, and bending. The individual in this position will also be required to have manual dexterity, perform shift work, and maneuver the weight of patients.
