Job Summary

The Town of Middletown, RI is seeking a highly skilled Budget Analyst to join our team. As a key member of our Finance Department, you will be responsible for performing routine and complex budget or management analysis, fiscal research, and related work.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist departments in preparing budgets and budget materials, reviewing and making recommendations on department budget proposals, and providing financial analysis of department work.
  • Prepare explanations and summary materials on financial issues and trends, providing information on alternatives and drawing conclusions from financial data.
  • Analyze budgets, prepare and justify budget requests, and recommend the allocation of funds according to spending priorities.
  • Assist supervisors in preparing the annual budget and various budget tracking reports, responding to inquiries regarding the annual budget, current spending, and revenue levels.
  • Collect, maintain, and analyze records of actual operating expenses to compare with the budget, developing projections and identifying patterns based on performance-to-date and historical trends.
  • Plan and carry out budget procedures, including monitoring budget performance and fiscal forecasts, attending budget meetings as needed.
  • Communicate and work with departments on projections and patterns, making recommendations for corrective action if necessary.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in the analysis of budgets or accounting-related positions.
