Job Summary:

The EH&S Manager will be responsible for coordinating the planning, administration, implementation, and enforcement of our plant's environmental, health, and safety policies to ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations. This includes developing and implementing safety practices, conducting incident investigations, and managing worker's compensation claims.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement safety practices to create a safe working environment
  • Conduct incident investigations and root cause analysis
  • Manage worker's compensation claims and minimize costs and fraud
  • Accompany employees on initial visits to panel physicians and attend follow-up visits as needed
  • Promote safety awareness and assist in safety and technical training
  • Lead the plant's Safety Committee and focus on raising safety awareness and creating an environment free of incidents
  • Monitor and enforce environmental, health, and safety regulations
  • Work with corporate EH&S on various projects and initiatives
  • Develop and implement a behavioral safety based program and serve as a safety liaison with Corporate EH&S
  • Lead efforts to identify, recommend, develop, and implement best practices for AWC safety programs
  • Provide support and assistance to other locations when EH&S Coordinator/Manager positions are vacant
  • Assist with the technical training of new EH&S Coordinators/Managers
  • Conduct ongoing safety inspections of facilities, operations, and equipment to ensure compliance and a safe working environment
  • Analyze work functions to develop safety, environmental, and ergonomic policies to ensure compliance
  • Develop plant Ergonomics program and assessments to address ergonomic issues
  • Work with engineering and perform new equipment safety assessments
  • Act as a professional liaison in case of government agency inspections concerning safety, environmental, or ergonomic issues
  • Maintain updated OSHA and EPA required written programs and recommend/conduct training as necessary
  • Conduct Industrial Hygiene monitoring of hazards including noise and chemical exposure and work to minimize exposure
  • Administer and maintain MSDS Programs
  • Develop local metrics to support and drive safety performance
  • Actively participate on assigned teams and/or projects
  • Ensure policies are followed and provide guidance on safety-related discipline
  • Support and represent the company as a union-free environment
  • Conduct and maintain JSA's to help ensure job safety
  • Participate in the identification and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives
  • Role model CITE and Working in Teams principles
  • Perform other tasks as directed by plant manager
Supervision Responsibilities:

This position may be asked to supervise an EH&S Specialist or an EH&S Engineer. However, this position typically has no direct supervision responsibilities, but will give direction to others in ensuring compliance with all state and federal regulations.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and ability required.

Education, Experience, and Skills:

Undergraduate degree in Occupational Safety & Health, Safety Engineering or related discipline; graduate degree preferred.

Minimum of 7 to 10 years EH&S experience; manufacturing preferred.

Experience with implementation and administration of a Behavior Based Safety Programs.

Experience in managing workers compensation claims, claims analysis, and cost reduction.

First-Aid, and CPR certification required, EMT a plus.

Must have experience in developing and administering Safety & Health programs and Industrial Hygiene sampling techniques.

Excellent personal computer skills in a network environment; Microsoft products experience preferred - Outlook-Word-Excel.

Track record of successful project management.

Must have experience in working in a team environment leading teams to meet/exceed goals.

Strong planning/Organization & Time Management skills.

Demonstrated problem solving skills.

Communications Skills:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common business and technical journals and financial reports. Ability to listen and communicate effectively with customers/clients in an effort to respond to common inquires or complaints from customers/clients, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community and public. Ability to develop presentations to be delivered to production team, plant level team, or public groups.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to apply basic mathematical concepts like addition, subtraction, multiplication or division to basic manufacturing performance recording or financial performance recording. Ability to read and use a tape measure.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and walk and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 20 pounds.

Working Environment:

Typical indoor manufacturing environment. The noise level is usually moderate to high and hearing protection may be required on the production floor. Safety glasses are required on the production floor. Travel, off shift, and occasional weekend work are required.
