Code Compliance Specialist

The Code Enforcement Officer, now known as the Code Compliance Specialist, serves in the Planning and Development Department of the City of Edmonds Washington to communicate with both citizens and staff and help ensure that community standards for land use, rights of way, and buildings are met in a reasonable manner. This role involves working closely with various business units, including Local Government, Inspection Services, Construction Management, Business Licensing, and Office Administration, to ensure compliance with regulations and ordinances.
Key responsibilities of the Code Compliance Specialist include:
- Conducting site visits and inspections to ensure compliance with land use regulations and building codes
- Responding to citizen complaints and concerns regarding land use and building issues
- Collaborating with other departments to resolve complex land use and building issues
- Providing education and outreach to the community on land use and building regulations
- Staying up-to-date on changes to land use and building regulations and ordinances
The ideal candidate for this role will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and as part of a team. A strong understanding of land use and building regulations, as well as experience working in a local government setting, is highly desirable.
