Job Summary

This is a highly collaborative and visible role as part of the ERM Actuarial Team at Securian Financial Group. The successful candidate will provide leadership, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and actuarial expertise in support of Securian's financial risk management, capital management, ERM governance, and risk reporting.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Lead the annual ORSA process, collaborating with associates across the organization to develop an accurate and decision-useful report.

  2. Monitor ERM best practices, leveraging external sources to assess emerging trends, tools, and strategies, and recommend and drive enhancements to Securian's ERM framework.

  3. Collaborate with key stakeholders and ERM Governance groups to manage Securian's risk inventory.

  4. Support development and execution of climate risk management framework, ensuring alignment with external regulatory requirements and internal risk management needs.

  5. Lead ERM Governance Group structure, ensuring best practices are being followed, charters are regularly updated, facilitating cross-group collaboration, and coordinating Governance Group Chairs Committee.

  6. Provide actuarial analysis in support of Securian's insurance risk management, including mortality, longevity, morbidity, and policyholder behavior.

  7. Lead and/or support development and maintenance of risk management frameworks for Securian's insurance risks, including scenario testing, stress testing, risk appetite, and risk tolerances.

  8. Perform quantitative analysis to assess risk positions and analyze impacts of potential risk management strategies, including reinsurance programs.

  9. Collaborate with internal stakeholders to understand risk exposures and influence risk management strategies.

  10. Lead ERM stress testing engagement in Goals and Plans, collaborating with solutions groups to collect and analyze stress testing results.

  11. Engage senior leaders to develop and maintain enterprise risk appetite statement for individual financial risks.

  12. Leverage external resources to understand industry trends, best practices, and available tools to measure and manage insurance risk.

  13. Provide actuarial leadership in support of ERM projects and initiatives.

  14. Support market segment and shared solutions initiatives, providing analysis, ERM expertise, and ensuring alignment with our risk appetite.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have:

  • ASA or near-FSA actuarial designation
  • Strong creative, analytical and problem-solving skills to analyze information and form recommendations
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with a wide range of associates across the organization
  • Decision-making skills and ability to act independently
  • High degree of initiative and ability to identify ideas and define and complete projects which meet the objectives of the department, division, and enterprise
  • Ability to assess the big picture and complete detailed analysis, and the ability to understand when each is required
  • Ability to handle confidential information appropriately
  • Self-motivated and flexible; ability both to work independently and to work with and receive direction from a variety of individuals
  • Adaptable in a rapidly changing environment and respond to changing priorities
  • Ability to work directly with other associates
Preferred Qualifications

  • Working knowledge of ERM concepts
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
Work Environment

Securian Financial Group believes in hybrid work as an integral part of our culture. Associates get the benefit of working both virtually and in our offices. If you're in a commutable distance (90 minutes), you'll join us 2-3 days each week in our offices to collaborate and build relationships. Our policy allows flexibility for the reality of business and personal schedules. When working in our offices at least two days per week isn't feasible (vacations, illness, travel, etc.), an eight day per month standard is an option.

Compensation

The estimated base pay range for this job is: $84,000.00 - $155,000.00. Pay may vary depending on job-related factors and individual experience, skills, knowledge, etc. More information on base pay and incentive pay (if applicable) can be discussed with a member of the Securian Financial Talent Acquisition team.
