Support Professional for Special Education

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Support Professional to assist students with special needs. The ideal candidate will work closely with classroom teachers and school staff to ensure the safety, well-being, and educational progress of students. This role involves supporting daily activities, implementing therapy plans, and maintaining a positive learning environment. Flexibility, patience, and a commitment to inclusive education are essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities:
- Student Support and Supervision
- Follow a schedule determined by school leadership.
- Escort students in and out of the building, including during arrival, dismissal, and recess.
- Assist with personal hygiene needs, including toileting and changing.
- Maintain clean and organized equipment and supplies for student use.
- Support student mobility, including lifting and transferring to different equipment.
- Assist with therapy plans (PT, OT, SLH) as directed.
- Provide supervision during lunch, recess, and classroom transitions.
- Operate lifts and other equipment as needed to meet student needs.
- Instructional Support
- Assist in preparing and distributing educational materials.
- Support classroom instruction under the supervision of the teacher.
- Provide individual or small group instruction to students.
- Supervise the class during brief absences of the teacher.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and behaviors.
- Safety and Emergency Assistance
- Assist during emergency situations and drills.
- Use proper Crisis Prevention Intervention techniques when necessary.
- Monitor students during time-out sessions and assist with behavioral support.
- Administrative Duties
- Maintain inventory of materials and equipment.
- Assist with collecting attendance and meal information.
- Help with making school-related phone calls as directed.
- Collaboration and Communication
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and parents.
- Maintain respect for confidential information, including student records.
- Attend required meetings and training sessions.
- Serve as a role model and promote a positive learning environment.
The estimated salary range for this position is $18 - $24 per hour. To be considered highly qualified, applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- Complete at least two years of study at an Institute of Higher Education (48 semester or 72 quarter hours).
- Obtain an Associate Degree (or higher) from an accredited institution.
- Pass the Test for Paraprofessionals.
Applicants must also have a satisfactory background check (BCII and FBI), provide three professional references, and possess physical stamina to lift students and assist with mobility as needed.
