Position Overview:
The Cybersecurity Systems Engineer Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring that all delivered information systems comply with security standards as outlined by relevant Department of Defense (DoD) policies, including the Risk Management Framework (RMF) for Information Technology.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop comprehensive documentation necessary to secure an Authorization to Operate (ATO) for deployed systems.
- Assess the information protection requirements for various systems and networks.
- Collaborate with design engineers to enhance system architecture with a focus on cybersecurity measures.
- Support a multidisciplinary project team of Systems, Software, and Cybersecurity Engineers in analyzing requirements and constraints for secure implementations.
- Oversee project schedules and budgets for assigned tasks.
- Engage with clients and authorization officials to establish and meet cybersecurity objectives.
- Stay informed about the latest system security policies and directives.
- Obtain and maintain necessary certifications to qualify as part of the DoD Cybersecurity Workforce.
- Adhere to training and ethical standards in all professional activities.
- Seek clarification on unfamiliar concepts, designs, and implementation details, including the generation of functional block diagrams and use-case diagrams.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree with a minimum of 4 years of relevant experience, or a Graduate Degree with at least 2 years of experience. Alternatively, 8 years of related experience may substitute for a degree.
- Eligibility to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance, requiring U.S. Citizenship.
- Minimum of one year of experience in Risk Management Framework (RMF).
- At least two years of experience in Security Engineering with accreditation experience.
- One year of experience in hardening Linux and Windows operating systems.
- One year of experience with routers and firewalls.
- A minimum of three years of experience in analyzing system specifications and translating them into cybersecurity requirements.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including off-shift work and occasional overtime.
- Ability to travel as required.
Preferred Skills:
- Current Security+ certification; CISSP is a plus.
- Familiarity with Platform Information Technology (PIT) is advantageous.
- Experience in systems integration is desirable.
