Job Summary

Ombudsman Educational Services is seeking a highly skilled Intervention Specialist to join our team. As an Intervention Specialist, you will play a critical role in planning, preparing, and implementing instructional processes for students with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) within our learning centers or classrooms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide a collaborative environment for students, parents, center staff, and administrative personnel.
  • Establish a climate that promotes a firm, fair, and respectful classroom environment, focusing on social development and group responsibility by modeling and reinforcing positive behaviors as outlined in our Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) program.
  • Implement established school-wide and classroom PBIS programs, including reinforcement systems, behavioral expectations, and consequence guidelines, as well as maintaining corresponding data collection and record-keeping systems.
  • Record student progress and maintain student files on a continuing basis, preparing reports on children and activities as required by laws, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Develop and implement IEPs, behavior plans, and functional behavior analyses as required by specific contracts.
  • Provide direct instruction in subjects as required and work in a team environment to effectively teach collaboratively and/or co-teach curricular subjects as required in IEPs.
  • Modify curriculum and assist with differentiated instruction for students as well as staff.
  • Use a variety of instructional strategies and resources to respond to students' diverse needs and interests, including prescribed educational software and intervention curriculum.
  • Act as a case manager for special education students, updating IEPs and goals as required.
  • Prepare lesson plans and materials for assigned classes.
  • Report incidents, such as fights, suspected child abuse, or suspected substance abuse, to maintain student safety and adhere to State and Federal law.
  • Assist the Site Director in maintaining the physical center, furniture, and supplies in a neat and orderly condition according to procedure.
  • Ensure the center and surrounding area are neat, clean, well-maintained, and present an organized and professional appearance at all times.
  • Be responsible for the proper use and cleanliness of equipment.
  • Stay up-to-date with research-based practices and developments in subject areas, resources, and professional development.
  • Respond constructively to formal and informal feedback.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or higher in education or a closely related field.
  • Meet all state teaching license and/or certification requirements.
  • Licensed as or have the ability to obtain a special education credential.
  • Prior experience and highly knowledgeable in curriculum development, differentiation, and instruction in a classroom setting.
  • Prior experience working in an alternative and/or special education program setting is preferred.
  • Highly skilled in working with children with autism spectrum disorders and/or related disabilities.
  • Advanced oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem-solving, and decision-making ability.
  • Solid motivational skills and willingness to be flexible and adapt to changing priorities and new initiatives.
  • Knowledge of relevant technology, including experience with instructional technology, Microsoft Office Suite, database entry, and basic office equipment.
