Job Summary

This position requires the Respiratory Therapist to be responsible for the administration of therapeutic gases, aerosols and nebulized medications and other therapeutic modalities as ordered by the physician. The Respiratory Therapist provides respiratory care consults and assessments when requested by the physician and makes daily rounds on all patients on the respiratory care service, reviews charts and does patient teaching as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Makes daily rounds on all patients and reviews orders for therapy.
  • Documents the results of therapy and patient response to treatment (pulse, breath sounds, sputum production, shortness of breath, etc).
  • Draws arterial blood gases
  • Documents patient teaching as needed.
  • Monitors patients on mechanical ventilation and adjust settings per physician orders.
  • Documents endotracheal intubation and post intubation x-ray findings.
  • Responds to request for assistance with patients with respiratory distress in a timely fashion.
  • Must have ability to function autonomously.
  • Cooperates with all personnel in the proper conduct of the department.
  • Maintains ethical relationships.
  • Adheres to hospital and departmental rules and regulations.
  • Participates in in-service programs.
