Position Summary:

Diverse Systems Group LLC is looking for talented Technical Writers to contribute to a significant project focused on enhancing accessibility for users. The selected candidates will play a crucial role in developing alternative and extended text descriptions for graphical representations, ensuring adherence to established accessibility standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Create precise and succinct alternative text (alt-text) for visual content to support users with visual impairments.
  • Compose detailed descriptions for intricate maps to facilitate comprehensive understanding for all users.
  • Work closely with subject matter experts and accessibility professionals to guarantee content accuracy and compliance with accessibility guidelines.
  • Revise and refine existing descriptions based on constructive feedback and testing outcomes.
  • Maintain thorough documentation and project records, ensuring meticulous tracking of all produced content.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing, English, Journalism, or a related discipline.
  • Demonstrated experience in technical writing or content development with a focus on accessibility.
  • Understanding of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) and experience in crafting accessible content.
  • Capability to convert visual information into descriptive text comprehensible to individuals with diverse disabilities.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Strong organizational skills with the capacity to meet stringent project timelines.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with content management systems and accessibility software.
  • Familiarity with digital mapping and geographic information systems (GIS) is advantageous.
  • Background in environmental science, geography, or a related area is beneficial.
