Role Overview

As a CPU Physical Design Methodology and Optimization Engineer at Apple, you will play a crucial role in shaping the future of our industry-leading CPU designs. Your expertise in physical design and optimization will be instrumental in improving Power, Performance, and Area (PPA) of our products. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop new flows, algorithms, and methodologies to enhance CPU performance and efficiency. Your work will have a significant impact on the development of our next-generation CPUs.

Key Responsibilities

- Develop and implement new physical design methodologies and optimization techniques to improve CPU performance and efficiency
- Collaborate with CPU CAD and design teams to engineer new flows and algorithms for PPA improvement
- Conduct detailed analysis across partitions to identify optimization opportunities and develop targeted solutions
- Work with STA, library, tech, and post-silicon teams to improve optimization during physical design

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field
- Minimum 10+ years of relevant industry experience
- Strong understanding of digital circuits, timing/power concepts, and logic design
- Basic scripting skills to interface with tools and mine data
- Experience with industry-standard synthesis, PnR, and STA tools

Preferred Qualifications

- Strong fundamentals in high-performance and low-power physical design techniques
- Proficiency in programming and scripting languages (e.g., Python, TCL, Perl)
- Understanding of challenges related to deep sub-micron technology and ability to write algorithms and code to extract PPA during physical design
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
