Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Specialist to join our team at Emory University. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing assistance with maintaining the mouse colony and laboratory experiments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform a variety of specialized and complex research and laboratory tests and procedures under minimal supervision.
  • Use independent judgment in applying or adapting scientific techniques.
  • Assist in protocol design and investigate alternative experimental procedures for consideration by a principal investigator.
  • Plan and schedule research procedures, analyze and interpret results of studies, and demonstrate and train others in the proper use/operation of laboratory techniques and equipment.
  • Calibrate, troubleshoot, and perform routine repair and maintenance of equipment, review literature for related research developments and techniques, and compile findings.
  • Monitor laboratory processes to maintain quality assurance standards, record results of studies, compile and analyze data, and prepare charts and graphs.
  • Monitor the handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous substances and perform related responsibilities as required.
Additional Job Details
  • Assist with maintaining the mouse colony.
  • Perform defined research experiments, including behavioral assessments in mice, under general supervision.
  • Perform routine laboratory maintenance activities, such as PCR analysis, running agarose gels, cleaning, and sterilization of laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain records and files of laboratory work in laboratory notebooks and/or computer databases.
  • Compile data for grants, publications, and presentations, and perform related responsibilities as required by principal investigator.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a scientific field and two years of research experience, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with mouse models.
  • Prior research experience.
