About the Position

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Astronomy Education Professional to join our team at the National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO).

As an Astronomy Education Professional, you will be responsible for designing, creating, implementing, and executing formal and informal education programs for K-12 students and teachers. This includes developing curricula, leading workshops, and providing support to educators.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement education programs for K-12 students and teachers
  • Develop curricula and educational materials related to astronomy and radio astronomy
  • Provide training and support to educators on using astronomy-related resources
  • Collaborate with the STEAM Education Manager and other team members to develop and implement education programs
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in astronomy, physical science, education, or a related field
  • 1 year of classroom teaching experience in physics, astronomy, or a related subject
  • Experience facilitating research experiences in the classroom, including posing research questions, collecting data, analyzing data, and reporting results
  • Ability to create inclusive and culturally responsive curricula that engages a broad range of students
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment
Benefits:
  • Competitive salary: $65,000 - $80,000 per year

The position is based in Socorro, New Mexico, with occasional travel to Charlottesville, Virginia.
