Job Overview

The National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) is a leading research facility in the study of the universe, operating various radio telescopes globally. We are seeking an experienced Electronics Systems Specialist to support operations, maintenance, and fabrication work on antenna motion control electronics and fiber optic hardware.

Salary Information
We offer a competitive salary range of $60,000 - $90,000 per year, based on education and experience, plus benefits.

About the Role
As an Electronics Systems Specialist, you will be responsible for repairs, maintenance, and upgrades to the Very Large Array and Very Long Baseline Array Servo and Fiber Optic systems. You will work both at the bench and in the field, climbing our 25-meter antennas at the VLA site. The final position and job grade will be determined based on your education and experience.

Key Responsibilities
- Construct, adapt, and calibrate assigned equipment
- Troubleshoot, correct, and repair malfunctioning equipment
- Conduct various tests or experiments requiring modifications in test setups or procedures
- Record, analyze, and interpret test data
- Use standard electronic test equipment to record unit performance

Requirements and Qualifications
- Associate Degree in Engineering Technology or equivalent combination of education and related work experience
- Two or more years of experience, with specialized experience in servo and/or fiber support preferred
- Ability to work independently and reliably with minimal supervision
- Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing

Work Environment
This role involves working in an electronics shop environment, as well as outdoors in inclement weather and at heights up to 150 feet. You must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds and work at a bench for sustained periods.
