Job Description:
As a Sous Chef, you will be instrumental in managing kitchen activities under the direction of the Executive Chef or Chef de Cuisine. In this supervisory role, you will ensure efficient operations, perform daily food safety inspections, and lead pre-service briefings. Your responsibilities will also include overseeing the performance of the back-of-house team, maintaining relationships with suppliers, and executing essential kitchen tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee opening tasks, including inventory assessments and temperature monitoring
- Manage break schedules and labor allocation for kitchen personnel
- Assist with budgeting, inventory management, and order planning
- Uphold safety and sanitation standards consistently
- Coordinate food preparation, ensure quality control, and adjust recipes as needed
- Train new employees and support all kitchen stations
- Expedite food orders during service and uphold quality benchmarks
- Supervise closing tasks and equipment maintenance
- Implement new menu introductions and prepare the team accordingly
- Adhere to safety protocols and report any incidents immediately
Requirements:
- High School diploma, GED, or equivalent qualification
- Competent in all back-of-house roles
- Strong organizational and leadership capabilities
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Excellent communication skills; bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
- Basic computer skills
- Familiarity with industry standards and health regulations
Physical Demands:
- Capacity to lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds
- Required manual dexterity and visual acuity
- Endurance to stand, sit, or walk for prolonged periods
- Manual skills necessary for operating kitchen equipment
