Job Overview

Position Summary

The Shipping Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily activities within the Shipping Department. This role ensures that materials are picked, packed, and shipped efficiently and punctually, while fostering a clean and safe work environment.

Key Responsibilities

In addition to the duties of a Shipping Operations Supervisor:

  • Maintain all departmental equipment in optimal working condition, including forklifts, pickers, and hand tools.
  • Facilitate effective communication with department supervisors and upper management, utilizing appropriate channels.
  • Analyze daily operational reports to assess workload and manage overtime as necessary.
  • Collaborate with Sales to address requests, prioritize tasks, and resolve any arising issues.
  • Coordinate with Logistics for outbound shipments, ensuring timely delivery.
  • Work with Quality Control to address material discrepancies and manage non-conforming stock.
  • Process pick tickets through effective communication with Sales, department leads, and Quality Control.
  • Support Will-call traffic by ensuring orders are loaded promptly.
  • Manage loading dock space by coordinating with Logistics and Sales teams.
  • Train personnel on company processes, maintain training records, and identify training needs.
  • Participate in production meetings to discuss departmental challenges and propose solutions.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement while ensuring a safe and organized work environment.
  • Supervise shipping personnel in the picking, packing, checking, and shipping processes.
  • Effectively lead a team of 7 to 10 employees.
  • Perform additional duties as required.

Quality Assurance Activities

  • Conduct material verification and documentation, ensuring compliance with quality standards.
  • Coordinate with Sales for order adjustments, hot shipments, and cancellations.
  • Manage Will Calls and Small Parcel Shipments, ensuring timely and accurate loading.
  • Maintain an organized shipping dock to facilitate efficient operations.

Departmental Responsibilities

  • Implement Quality Management System (QMS) training for department personnel.
  • Conduct safety meetings and maintain clear pathways and organized spaces.
  • Oversee equipment maintenance and safety protocols.

Qualifications

  • Proficient in English; bilingual in Spanish is preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in the PVF industry.
  • Ability to interpret industry specifications and documentation.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Basic computer skills; familiarity with MS Word, Excel, and Outlook is advantageous.
  • Physical capability to lift 50 lbs with support.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
