Job Title: Senior Lifeguard

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Lifeguard to lead our aquatic team. As a Senior Lifeguard, you will be responsible for maintaining a safe and enjoyable environment for our pool patrons, enforcing pool rules and regulations, and providing exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conduct continuous surveillance of the pool area to prevent accidents and enforce pool rules and regulations.
  • Respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations, including water rescues and first aid.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to lower-level lifeguards, including training and mentoring.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports, including incident reports and pool maintenance records.
  • Collaborate with other aquatic staff to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all pool patrons.
Requirements:
  • Minimum of one full season of experience as a Lifeguard II with the City of Fairfield.
  • Possession of an American Red Cross (ARC) Lifeguard Training with Administering Emergency Oxygen certification.
  • Possession of a valid ARC Water Safety Instructor Certification.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical skills evaluation.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment teaching skills evaluation.
Working Conditions:

Work is typically performed at the Aquatics Complex at Allan Witt Park, with occasional work at other facilities. The position requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, with exposure to heat, sun, water, noise, dust, and chemicals/cleaning agents used in an aquatics complex.

Physical Demands:

The position requires the ability to sit or stand for long periods, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach, walk frequently, lift and/or move objects up to 20 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 50 pounds.

Distinguishing Characteristics:

This is the advanced journey level class in which incumbents take the leadership role in customer service and emergency situations, and oversee and motivate the lifeguards on duty.

Supervision Received and Exercised:

This position reports to the designated lead worker on duty and provides lead direction to lower-level workers in the program area to which the position is assigned.
