Key Responsibilities
- Execute Out Factory Door (OFD) and Delegation Option Authority (DOA) flight evaluations.
- Perform safety inspections for aircraft certification processes.
- Conduct pre-flight, run-up, and in-flight assessments of equipment.
- Verify and test discrepancies for compliance with Piper Process Specifications (PPS) and airworthiness standards.
- Engage in pilot standardization efforts and interface with various departments as necessary.
- Prepare documentation and data sheets to capture flight test outcomes.
- Interpret and adhere to Federal Aviation Regulation (FAR) requirements for aircraft certification.
- Maintain proficiency and currency in all prerequisites for test pilot duties.
- Oversee the maintenance of test and survival equipment.
- Conduct offsite aircraft deliveries to clients, including acceptance flights.
- Collaborate with Sales and Delivery teams to facilitate customer acceptance flights at Piper Aircraft.
- Conduct assessment check rides alongside FAA ECB Test Pilots.
- Exhibit the ability to make sound decisions and take independent actions as necessary.
- Undertake additional related responsibilities as required.
To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to perform each essential function effectively. The qualifications outlined below represent the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary for success.
Qualifications and Experience
- A Bachelor's degree is preferred; however, an Associate's degree is required. Candidates with significant experience as a Pilot in Command (PIC) will also be considered. A minimum of three to five years as a general aviation pilot is essential, along with an FAA pilot certificate that includes commercial, single and multiengine land instrument ratings, a current FAA class two medical certificate, and Biennial Flight Review instrument currency, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of 2000 hours total pilot time, including 500 hours of multiengine time, 300 hours in complex aircraft, and 500 hours in general aviation aircraft similar to company products is required.
- Proficiency in radio communications and safety devices relevant to flight testing is crucial for this position.
- The candidate must possess clear communication skills in English, particularly with Air Traffic Control Tower (ATCT).
- Demonstrates the physical and functional capability to perform assigned tasks, including the ability to lift and carry up to 35 lbs.
- While fulfilling the responsibilities of this role, employees may encounter potential hazards associated with test flying and hot, humid conditions in aircraft without air-conditioning.
- Employees are frequently exposed to a manufacturing environment with elements such as odor, noise, dust, heat, cold, chemicals, or other factors that may render conditions less favorable than typically found in an office setting.
