Position Overview

COMPENSATION: $50.00/hour

This role involves conducting MRI examinations as directed by referring clinicians, adhering to established protocols and procedures. The individual will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team that includes radiologists, radiology residents, radiologic technologists, and nursing staff.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Verify patient identity and review relevant information to ensure consistency with the ordered exam, clinical diagnosis, and demographic details.
  • Evaluate all pertinent information to identify any contraindications for the MRI procedure, including medications and preparation status.
  • Screen patients for ferrous and RF-sensitive materials before entering the MRI environment, ensuring safety protocols are followed.
  • Utilize safety devices on MRI equipment to protect both the patient and the technologist.
  • Analyze patient charts and physician requests to determine optimal imaging parameters, selecting appropriate coils and protocols for each examination.
  • Calculate the correct dosage of contrast agents based on patient specifics and administer them according to established guidelines, monitoring for any adverse reactions.
  • Provide clear explanations and instructions to patients and their families, addressing any questions or concerns regarding the MRI process.
  • Confirm patient consent for the procedure, ensuring they understand the associated risks and benefits.
  • Monitor the patient's physical and mental state throughout the examination, providing first aid or life support as necessary.
  • Reformat images and perform specialized 3D imaging as required.
  • Alert healthcare providers when immediate clinical intervention is necessary based on findings during the procedure.
  • Ensure all images are sent to PACS along with relevant documentation, archiving them according to established standards.
  • Report any equipment malfunctions or safety issues promptly.
  • Conduct daily quality assurance checks and equipment warm-ups as per established protocols.
  • Engage in administrative tasks as needed, including answering calls, greeting patients, and managing clerical duties.
  • Participate in educational programs to enhance knowledge and skills in MRI and related imaging techniques.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations regarding patient information.
  • Fulfill additional responsibilities as assigned that align with the role.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a registered technologist with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
  • Minimum of two years of experience as an MRI technologist.
  • Certification as an MRI technologist is required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to stand, walk, sit, lift supplies, stoop, bend, pull, push, reach, write, type, file, speak, hear, and see for extended periods.
