Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Manufacturing Engineer to join our team at Tesla. As a PCBA Design for Manufacturing (DFM) expert, you will be responsible for ensuring that our printed circuit board assemblies are optimized for manufacturing.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain PCBA Design for Manufacturing (DFM) rules to ensure that PCBA designs are optimized for manufacturing
  • Evaluate proposed PCBA designs and processes for manufacturability, with a focus on cost and quality
  • Provide feedback and mentorship to design and supplier industrialization engineers on production processes, printed circuit board technologies, design rules, and process requirements
  • Collaborate with product development teams to identify and realize innovative design elements through early engagement and engineering verification
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives to develop innovative solutions to complex design and manufacturing challenges, driving cost reduction, yield improvement, and technological advancements
  • Transfer manufacturing processes to external vendors to enable the mass production of innovative technologies in new product categories
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives on PCBA manufacturing lines, using data-driven insights and industry best practices to improve process efficiency and quality
Requirements
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience performing DFM for PCB and PCBA (DFA/DFT is an asset)
  • Strong knowledge and understanding on design rules regarding rigid and flex PCB manufacturing process, SMT, THT, reflow conformal coating, underfill, glue, pin stitch, and depanelization processes
  • Experience with DFM software applications like Valor, Vayo or similar
  • Strong knowledge of industry specifications and standards, including IPC, JEDEC, and PCB panel design principles
  • Experience with CAD library management, including designing and maintaining component land patterns, solder paste stencil design rules, and aperture selection for SMT and through-hole components
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, related field, or equivalent experience
