Job Summary

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Warehouse Specialist to join our team at Minneapolis Public Schools. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the receipt and storage of food, supplies, and materials, as well as maintaining accurate inventory records.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive and process food supplies and materials for refrigerated warehouse serving the Culinary and Wellness Services central kitchen facility.
  • Operate powered fork lift, and move material according to work order and material requisition form; assist with loading and unloading of delivery trucks.
  • Conduct monthly inventory of all food and supplies; review paperwork and monitor inventory levels.
  • Utilize inventory control procedures to manage warehouse supplies, and store goods in the designated areas of the freezer, coolers and warehouse.
  • Provide setup and cleanup for distribution, lines, and cook areas.
  • Schedule and confirm deliveries; communicate with buyer on order accuracy.
  • Work independently, and assure that all safety rules, regulations and policies are observed; perform duties within scope of authority and training, and in compliance with MPS policies.
  • Receive frozen, refrigerated and dry goods according to food safety standards and established receiving guidelines; provide accurate receiving data to the Inventory Coordinator.
  • Inspect and verify accuracy and condition of all materials received against appropriate paperwork; verify accuracy of materials pulled from inventory.
  • Strategically stage products to assure efficient delivery to production and distribution work areas.
  • Maintain tidiness and cleanliness in the warehouse; stack and store materials in designated areas.
  • Monitor work site to assure that safety rules and regulations are adhered to, and that the work zone and all equipment are in safe operating condition.
  • Utilize proper safety precautions in all work performed; clean up spills and unsafe conditions in a timely manner and according to procedures.
  • Recognize, avoid, and report unsafe acts, conditions, accidents and injuries.
  • Demonstrate courteous and cooperative behavior when interacting with students, clients, visitors, and MPS staff; act in a manner that promotes a harmonious and effective workplace environment.
  • Enthusiastically promote the Superintendent's goals and priorities in compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality of work-related issues, records and MPS information.
  • Other duties or tasks may be assigned on an as-needed basis.
  • At times may be required to work outside normal business hours and work extended hours to accomplish requirements of the position.
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent; AND three (3) year of warehouse or shipping and receiving experience, preferably in a commercial food service setting; OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by Human Resources.
  • Knowledge of: Basic shipping and receiving practices and procedures. Warehouse operations and procedures. Safety and sanitation practices and methods for food preparation, distribution and storage. FIFO procedures for food storage and selection. Principles of record keeping and records management. Personal sanitation and hygiene regulations. Safety rules and regulations. Occupational hazards and safety precautions.
  • Skill in: Operating and maintaining a forklift in a safe and effective manner. Operating a warehouse in a safe manner, in compliance with state and local regulations. Performing basic mathematical computations. Following verbal and written instructions and procedures. Assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands. Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with co-workers and clients. Following and maintaining safety standards.
License and Certification Requirements
  • Must possess and maintain a valid Minnesota State Driver's License and Fork Lift Operator License are required.
  • Must acquire and maintain in good standing a Serve Safe certification within sixty (60) days of date of hire.
Physical Demands and Working Environment

Work is performed indoors and outdoors at MPS facilities; requires constant physical efforts; may be exposed to safety hazards and dangerous tools and equipment; safety precautions must be followed including use of safety equipment; a job in this category may require walking, bending, reaching, kneeling, crouching, climbing ladders, and ability to frequently lift and move items weighing up to 50 pounds. Eligibility for position is based on passing the required pre-placement exam.
