Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Anesthesiologist Generalist to join our team at Virginia Commonwealth University. As a key member of our Department of Anesthesiology, you will be responsible for delivering exceptional anesthetic and critical care to our patients, advancing research and quality improvement in anesthesiology and perioperative medicine, and training the next generation of anesthesiologists.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide preanesthetic evaluation, intraoperative anesthetic care, postoperative rounds, resuscitation, and intensive care to patients at VCU Health.
  • Direct the activities of nurse anesthetists and participate in clinical teaching programs.
  • Pursue clinical or laboratory research and other scholarly interests independently.
  • Participate in clinical trials and serve on various departmental, School of Medicine, University, or VCU Health System committees.
  • Provide clinical anesthesiology care to patients in main OR and ambulatory areas, and supervise and direct Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA) as appropriate.
Requirements
  • MD or DO degree.
  • ABA Board eligible/certified in Anesthesiology and/or certified/eligible for Critical Care Certification.
  • Eligible for unrestricted medical licensure in Virginia.
  • Eligible for employment in the United States.
  • Good communication, clinical, and teaching skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.
