JOB SUMMARY
This position assists the transportation manager/director in overseeing the operations related to deliveries and backhauls. Responsibilities include training and managing transportation department personnel, ensuring compliance with regulations, and fostering a safe and secure transportation environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees the daily operations and safety of transportation staff, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures, food safety standards, and efficient customer service.
  • Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations (i.e., DOT, OSHA) and maintains accurate electronic logs.
  • Manages labor hours and supplies within budget constraints.
  • Creates work schedules, including additional shifts as necessary.
  • Facilitates the training of new hires and cross-training of existing staff.
  • Directs the appropriate use of company resources to support delivery operations.
  • Coordinates necessary repairs with relevant departments.
  • Analyzes delivery processes and productivity reports; proposes efficiency improvements and assists in implementing changes.
  • Interprets, trains, and enforces company policies and procedures consistently.
  • Collaborates with warehouse and customer service teams to resolve delivery issues.
  • Visits customer sites to address concerns and evaluate delivery challenges.
  • Maintains positive employee relations through regular meetings.
  • Encourages open communication with staff by addressing questions and clarifying policies.
  • Monitors employee morale and submits ideas for enhancing engagement.
  • Works with safety management to conduct training, observations, and safety inspections.
  • Recommends corrective actions as necessary.
  • Handles management functions including staff selection, development, and performance evaluations.
  • Adheres to assigned schedules and demonstrates reliable attendance.
  • Performs duties of supervised associates and other related tasks as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent; or a combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Preferred: 2 or 4-year degree in business management, supply chain management, or a related field.

Experience

  • 2-4 years of experience in transportation or related training.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Class A Commercial Driver's License preferred but not mandatory.
  • Certificate in DOT regulations training preferred.

Professional Skills

  • Knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and DOT rules; familiarity with standard operating procedures and software applications.
  • Ability to make independent decisions in line with company policies.
  • Effective in leading discussions and meetings.
  • Capable of solving practical problems and interpreting various instructions.
  • Consistently applies relevant policies in a timely and objective manner.
  • Disciplined in following established procedures and complying with regulations.
