POSITION SUMMARY

This role is essential in providing Child Life services to young patients within the Emergency Department. The Pediatric Support Specialist will utilize distraction techniques and calming strategies to alleviate anxiety and promote cooperation during medical procedures. Tailored interventions will be designed according to each child's developmental stage, age, and individual needs to mitigate stress and trauma.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Deliver developmentally appropriate interventions, including therapeutic play and preparatory education, to help reduce fear, anxiety, and discomfort for children and adolescents in both outpatient and inpatient environments.

2. Address the psychosocial needs of pediatric patients by offering emotional support and creating therapeutic opportunities that foster optimal growth and development within the healthcare setting.

3. Maintain a flexible schedule, including a commitment to work every other weekend and shifts that may vary.

QUALIFICATIONS

- A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Child Life, Child Development, Child Psychology, or a related discipline is required; a Master's degree is preferred.

- Completion of a 600-hour Child Life Internship under the supervision of a certified Child Life Specialist.

- Child Life Certification is required or must be obtained within six months of employment.

- Prior experience in a hospital Child Life program is preferred but not mandatory.
