**Job Title:** Early Childhood Assistant Teacher

Location: Hampton Roads, VA

Salary: $40,000 - $55,000 per year

Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Early Childhood Assistant Teacher to join our team at the Hampton Roads Community Action Program. As an Assistant Teacher, you will be responsible for supporting the teacher in providing a safe and engaging educational environment for young children.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist the teacher in implementing lesson plans and activities that promote social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development of Head Start children
  • Monitor and record behaviors of children to assist the teacher in identifying each child's strengths and areas for growth
  • Encourage parental involvement in the classroom and support the development of individual goals for children
  • Assist with ongoing assessments and record data using the Creative Curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold web-based assessment tool
  • Supervise and monitor children at all times and respond to crisis or emergency situations as needed

Requirements:

  • At least a Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or enrolled in a program leading to an associate or baccalaureate degree
  • One year of full-time preschool classroom experience or equivalent
  • Excellent communication skills, especially good listening and writing skills
  • A valid Virginia Driver's License and proof of current auto insurance where applicable
