Sleep Study Technician

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the guidance of the Cardiopulmonary Manager and/or Sleep Lab Supervisor, the Sleep Lab Technician is responsible for conducting and interpreting diagnostic tests aimed at assessing various sleep and neurological conditions. This role includes providing patient care for individuals across all age groups, including adults, children, and infants.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

A high school diploma or GED is preferred.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates who do not possess the Registered Polysomnographic Technician (RPSGT) or Certified Polysomnographic Technician (CPSGT) credentials must achieve one of these certifications within one year of employment. For those already holding Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) or Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credentials, obtaining the Sleep Disorder Specialist (SDS) credential is an acceptable alternative, which must be completed within six months of employment if not already acquired. Until the necessary credentials are obtained, candidates will work under the direct supervision of qualified staff.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

No specific qualifications are required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

It is desirable for candidates to have completed two years of college with a focus on health sciences or to be currently enrolled in a health sciences program. Additionally, one year of experience in polysomnography is preferred, along with technical training in EEG.
