Job Summary

The Special Education Teacher provides direct services to students based on their individualized education plan (IEP); consults with other professionals; discusses progress with parents and teachers; plans, delivers, and evaluates instructional outcomes; and provides instruction through an inclusion model and/or small group pull-out. The teacher understands and promotes the school's mission, vision, values, and key goals both within and outside of the immediate school community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with teachers to develop and implement lesson plans that meet the individual needs of students.
  • Provide direct services to students, including instruction, support, and accommodations.
  • Consult with other professionals, including parents, teachers, and administrators, to discuss student progress and develop strategies for improvement.
  • Plan, deliver, and evaluate instructional outcomes to ensure student success.
  • Provide instruction through an inclusion model and/or small group pull-out, as needed.
Requirements
  • Wisconsin Special Education Teaching Certification.
  • Mandatory Child Abuse Reporting Certification required before first day with students.
  • CPR Certification preferred.
  • Additional, ongoing professional development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1+ years of experience working in a school setting.
  • Experience with the needs of a diverse student population.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office and billing software.
  • Strong communication skills, including concentration, ability to learn, and good listening.
  • Dependable, punctual, and good attendance record.
  • Accurate problem-solving, organization, attention to detail, and math skills.
  • Ability to interact in a personal and professional manner with students, parents, healthcare professionals, and other staff members.
  • Ability to work as a collaborative team member.
  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Knowledge of and ability to employ good and safe healthcare practices.
