Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Judicial Law Clerk to join our team in Charlottesville. As a Judicial Law Clerk, you will play a critical role in supporting the Court of Appeals of Virginia by preparing memoranda, drafting court orders, and collaborating with other clerks and members of the court to resolve cases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare memoranda for the judge by analyzing and summarizing briefs and case materials on appeal, including case documents and exhibits, trial transcripts, and related documents.
  • Compose draft court orders for approval.
  • Check citations and quote check appellate briefs and pleadings.
  • Collaborate with other clerks and members of the court to resolve cases.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an ABA-accredited law school, or membership in good standing of the bar of the Supreme Court of Virginia or the highest court of another state.
  • Prior legal or internship experience in criminal, civil, workers' compensation, and/or administrative agency law.
  • Knowledge of the trial and appellate court procedures, systems, and rules utilized in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Proficiency in online legal research and communication.
  • Organizational skills and attentiveness to detail.
  • Ability to handle a high volume of materials while meeting critical deadlines.
