Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Director of Equalization at Custer County. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the operation and appraisal of real estate within the county for taxation purposes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervise and Appraise real estate properties within the county to ensure accurate and fair taxation.
  • Develop and Implement policies and procedures for compliance with state laws and regulations.
  • Manage and Supervise a team of staff members to ensure efficient and effective operation of the department.
  • Collaborate with Other Departments to ensure seamless communication and coordination.
  • Provide Expertise and Guidance to taxpayers and other stakeholders on taxation matters.
  • Develop and Maintain accurate and up-to-date records and reports for the department.
  • Stay Up-to-Date with Industry Developments and best practices in taxation and appraisal.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in a related field or Business, Business Administration, Public Administration, or Public Policy.
  • Experience: Progressively responsible appraising experience equivalent to Appraiser, or two years' experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Certifications: Certified by the SD Department of Revenue in accordance with SDCL.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with GIS Equipment and related software.
  • Strong Mathematical Aptitude and ability to perform complex problem-solving operations.
  • Excellent Communication and Interpersonal Skills to effectively interact with taxpayers, staff, and other stakeholders.
Working Conditions

This is a full-time position that requires a valid South Dakota driver's license. The successful candidate will be required to work in a fast-paced environment and meet deadlines.
