Job Overview:

This position focuses on designing and implementing therapeutic programming within our CREATE afterschool environment. You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop activities that promote socioemotional growth and development for children participating in our onsite housing programs. Your expertise will be invaluable in creating a safe and nurturing environment where children can thrive.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct assessments to identify students' needs and create personalized treatment plans
  • Design and implement interventions using a Trauma-Informed Care approach, incorporating various modalities such as arts, drama, music, dance, sports, games, and field trips
  • Foster healthy emotional expression and coping mechanisms among students
  • Collaborate with staff teams and parents to enhance intervention effectiveness
  • Collect and analyze data on student progress, evaluating intervention success and making necessary adjustments
  • Develop opportunities for parent engagement and involvement in their child's educational journey
  • Attend regular team meetings to discuss student progress and develop strategies for improvement

Requirements:

To succeed in this role, you must possess a minimum of a B.S. degree in therapeutic recreation, child/human/family development, or a related mental health field. A Master's degree is desirable. Three years of experience in recreation therapy or a related field is required, along with direct experience working with children and parents. Bi-lingual candidates are preferred. National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification (NCTRC) or Child Life Certification is also preferred.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with staff, parents, and students
  • Strong group leadership and facilitation abilities, with a focus on promoting healthy relationships and teamwork
  • Maturity and sensitivity when interacting with clients from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to handle job-related stress and maintain professional boundaries
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Access, Word, and Excel
