We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate substance abuse counselor to provide direction and support for our patients in a residential treatment center. In this role, you will be responsible for developing personalized treatment and recovery plans, identifying behaviors that impede rehabilitation, and facilitating individual and group therapy sessions. To ensure success, substance abuse counselors should be familiar with the latest treatment methods and collaborate with other mental health care specialists. Top-notch candidates have excellent clinical knowledge and demonstrable counseling experience.
We believe the role would place you in a highly energized environment where you would be inspired to share your years of experience along with providing extraordinary support for the team and community. So we commit to hiring top talent and cultivating a culture based on merit. That commitment reflects our belief in the importance of a culture in which everyone is welcomed, everyone is accepted, and everyone is valued.
Founded in 1976, Janus is a non-profit dedicated to its mission: to provide supportive, hope-inspiring and successful substance use disorder (SUD) treatment services in a professional and compassionate environment while assisting individuals and families on their journey toward wellness and recovery. At Janus, our clients' well-being is exceptionally meaningful to us, and it is that environment that inspires everything we do.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct one-on-one and group therapy sessions to support clients in their recovery journey. This involves creating a safe space for clients to share their experiences and challenges.
- Develop and implement personalized treatment plans based on each client's unique needs and progress. Regularly update these plans to reflect their growth and changing circumstances.
- Provide immediate support and intervention during crises, helping clients navigate difficult moments and stay on track with their recovery.
- Teach clients coping mechanisms, life skills, and strategies to prevent relapse, including stress management, healthy relationships, and goal setting.
- Maintain accurate records of client progress, treatment plans, and any incidents to ensure continuity of care and evaluate the effectiveness of interventions.
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, such as doctors, nurses, and social workers, to provide comprehensive care.
Requirements
- Associate degree in chemical dependency counseling, or a bachelor's degree with coursework in chemical dependency.
- Master's degree in counseling preferred.
- Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), or similar.
- Previous experience with the treatment of substance abuse disorders.
- Familiarity with electronic health record systems like AVATAR would be advantageous.
- Experience with co-occurring health and mental health problems.
- Application of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services' (SAMHSA) best practice indicators.
- In-depth knowledge of drug and alcohol testing to monitor treatment plans and medical instructions.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills and a compassionate nature.
- Bilingual - Spanish strongly preferred.
Pay & Benefits
At Janus, base salary is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $27.50 and $33.50 per hour and your base pay will be considered on your job-related skills, training, qualifications, experience, and relevant education. You'll also receive access to benefits including comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage, 12 paid holidays, retirement benefits, no-cost mental health counseling services, and 12 paid sick days per year.
