As an Emergency Medical Technician in the Emergency Department, you will utilize your skills in a fast-paced medical environment.
This role offers the chance to observe patient-focused care in a structured setting while enhancing your understanding of hospital-based care compared to prehospital services.
In supporting the department, you will contribute to improvements and share your expertise with patients, families, and colleagues.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
- Performing EKGs, oral and nasal suctioning, and CPR.
- Initiating cardiac monitoring and oxygen therapy while documenting rhythm changes.
- Assisting with medical equipment setup, including chest tubes and gastric lavage.
- Engaging in cleaning procedures, maintaining sterile techniques, and handling hazardous materials.

Currently holds a license as an Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic (EMTP), along with Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certifications.

Your responsibilities will also include answering the EMS phone and documenting data for the EM physician to guide and supervise EMS teams.
Additional duties involve:
- Taking and recording vital signs.
- Assisting the Registered Nurse with triage and patient assessments.
- Administering first aid treatments such as controlling bleeding, bandaging, and cleansing wounds.
- Preparing patients for examinations by undressing and cleansing them.
- Performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation, including potential endotracheal intubation.
- Monitoring patients and applying leads for EKG observation.
- Answering phone calls related to nursing and office inquiries.
- Cleaning and storing EMS equipment.
- Starting intravenous lines and/or drawing blood while documenting in ED records.
May initiate triage and assessment of incoming EMS patients and report findings to an R.N. Perform similar less skilled tasks, including assisting with clerical duties and research. Complete mandatory education and training to maintain specific competencies and requirements.
Maintain applicable certification/licensure.
Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of an approved Basic EMT course and a course recognized by the Ohio State Board of Regents for Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic.
Certifications:
Certified in the State of Ohio as Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification with Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred.
Work Experience:
Maintains competencies specific to the patient population served.
Physical Requirements:
Personal protective equipment is utilized as required.
