Position Overview: The Vice President of Information Technology (VPIT) is tasked with overseeing and directing all facets of information technology (IT) and information services (IS) within the organization. This role encompasses strategic planning, development, implementation, and maintenance of technological systems and infrastructure that align with Gaylord Hospital's mission, vision, values, goals, and objectives. The VPIT ensures that all IT operations adhere to the highest standards of security, compliance, efficiency, and innovation, creating an environment conducive to exceptional patient care, operational effectiveness, and seamless communication. As a vital member of the Management Executive Committee, the VPIT collaborates closely with other executives and stakeholders to drive technological progress and enhance overall hospital performance while ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and IT standards.

The Vice President of Information Technology reports directly to the President/CEO, providing updates on IT-related matters and ensuring adherence to the policies established by the President/CEO and the Board of Directors. This role also represents Gaylord Hospital, Inc. in external associations and agencies, working alongside cross-functional leadership to develop and maintain innovative, efficient programs that cater to the needs of patients and staff.

The VPIT is also accountable for cybersecurity, which falls under the hospital's IT domain.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Vision & Leadership:

  • Provide strategic leadership to facilitate the adoption of advanced technologies that improve patient care, operational efficiency, and data security.
  • Oversee all aspects of hospital information services, including operations, budgets, policies, procedures, infrastructure, telephony, and long-term planning.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Management Team to identify and implement technology solutions that support hospital-wide initiatives.
IT Operations & Infrastructure Management:
  • Manage all IT operations, including network infrastructure, data centers, telecommunication systems, and enterprise applications.
  • Ensure the reliability, performance, and security of the hospital's IT systems and infrastructure.
  • Develop and manage the IT budget, encompassing capital expenditures, operating expenses, and resource allocation.
  • Establish and enforce IT policies, procedures, and standards to ensure compliance with industry regulations and best practices.
Data Security & Regulatory Compliance:
  • Act as the hospital's Chief Information Security Officer (CISO), responsible for maintaining the integrity and confidentiality of patient and organizational data.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and standards (e.g., HIPAA, HITECH, HITRUST).
  • Oversee the development and implementation of disaster recovery and business continuity plans, ensuring systems are regularly tested and updated.
  • Responsible for the formulation and review of all IT backup and disaster recovery procedures and plans.
Communication & Collaboration:
  • Serve as a key liaison between IT and other hospital departments, ensuring that technology solutions meet the needs of clinical and administrative staff.
  • Chair the IT Steering Committee, which leads the governance structure and aligns IT initiatives with business priorities.
  • Communicate IT strategies, initiatives, and performance to the CEO, Board of Directors, and other stakeholders.
  • Represent the hospital in external associations, industry groups, and conferences to stay informed on emerging trends and share the hospital's innovations.
  • Effectively communicate with internal clients to identify needs and evaluate alternative business solutions and strategies, continuously seeking ways to enhance internal client satisfaction and strengthen client relationships.
Vendor Management & Contract Negotiation:
  • Manage relationships with external vendors, consultants, and service providers, ensuring optimal value and service for the hospital.
  • Lead contract negotiations for IT services, software, and hardware, ensuring alignment with the hospital's strategic goals and financial constraints.
Team Leadership & Development:
  • Recruit, mentor, and lead a high-performing IT team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide professional development opportunities and create succession plans to ensure the ongoing growth and effectiveness of the IT department.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • Directly supervise IT managers and directors.
  • Provide oversight for all Information Services staff, including hiring, evaluating, and, when necessary, terminating personnel.
  • Ensure that the IT team operates efficiently and effectively, meeting or exceeding performance expectations.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field required.
  • A minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in IT leadership is essential.
  • Previous experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Experience managing large-scale IT projects, including system implementations, upgrades, and digital transformation initiatives is necessary.
  • Familiarity with healthcare/IT systems is preferred (i.e., Expanse, UKG, etc.).
WORK SCHEDULE: Full-time, salaried
