Role Summary

As a vital part of the OMAKAI Sushi Hand Roll Bar team, hosts and hostesses play a crucial role in creating a welcoming atmosphere for guests. Responsibilities include greeting patrons, managing seating arrangements, handling phone inquiries, and processing takeout orders. Successful candidates will ensure that every customer feels valued and that their needs are met promptly and professionally. In addition to the base hourly wage, employees have the opportunity to earn a share of takeout tips.

Essential Requirements

  • Availability for lunch and dinner shifts totaling 4-5 shifts per week.
  • Reliable transportation is a must.
  • Adherence to dress code standards is required.
  • Must be a US Citizen or legal resident.
  • A minimum of 1 year of hosting or serving experience in a full-service restaurant is required; fast food or non-dine-in experience is not applicable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Welcome customers warmly and professionally, ensuring a positive first impression.
  • Efficiently manage customer flow, including waitlists during peak times.
  • Seat and accommodate guests, ensuring they are attended to promptly by their servers.
  • Answer phone calls in a courteous manner, assisting customers and taking reservations as needed.
  • Process takeout orders accurately and ensure they are prepared and packaged according to standards.
  • Handle cash transactions and maintain an accurate register.
  • Familiarize yourself with the menu to assist customers effectively.
  • Perform additional tasks as needed to support restaurant operations.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Experience in high-end dining environments is advantageous.
  • Ability to manage reservations and optimize customer flow.
  • Knowledge of Japanese cuisine is a plus.
  • Exceptional customer service skills are essential.
  • Maintain a professional and friendly demeanor at all times.
  • Ability to remain calm and positive under pressure.
  • Proficient in handling cash and operating a point-of-sale system.
  • Willingness to follow instructions and feedback professionally.
  • Basic math skills are necessary.

Work Environment

The role primarily involves working indoors in a restaurant setting that handles a variety of food products. Candidates with food allergies should disclose this during the application process. Noise levels may vary based on restaurant activity.

Physical Demands
