Position Overview

In line with the ongoing growth of our Private Investing capabilities, we are looking to recruit an Associate to join our newly established Private Placements team. Wellington has been actively involved in private markets since 2003, launching its first dedicated private capital fund in 2014. Currently, the privates team manages approximately $8 billion in assets across four growth equity/venture funds and private placement debt, making it the fastest growing investment division within Wellington. With over $450 million in commitments, Private Placements represents the firm's inaugural product in private credit, serving as a vital complement to our existing $150 billion insurance portfolio.

The Private Placements Associate will engage in all facets of the transaction process, collaborating directly with our senior investment team to assist in the origination, underwriting, monitoring, and analysis of globally sourced privately placed debt instruments. Additionally, the Associate will liaise closely with internal deal teams and external financing partners, including banks, sponsors, advisors, and issuers, to facilitate the origination and underwriting of new assets while expanding existing positions.

The Associate should be inquisitive about private investing and demonstrate a keen interest in identifying unique investment opportunities through comprehensive research and due diligence.

Collaboration and Influence - The successful candidate will be a self-motivated, diligent team player who contributes to the investment efforts of the Private Placement team. They will thrive in a highly collaborative investment atmosphere and cultivate strong, trusting relationships internally with colleagues across the Private Investing and Investment Research teams, as well as externally with potential issuers and financing partners. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, are required to foster an open investment dialogue.

Intellectual Curiosity and Growth Mindset - The flexibility and willingness to continue learning, evolving, and growing as an Associate is crucial. The Associate will maintain a global perspective and employ a creative approach to analyzing private placement transactions. Success in this role will lead to advancement opportunities within the Private Placements team and the broader Wellington organization.

Core Responsibilities
Responsibilities for this position will encompass the following:
* Conducting due diligence on prospective issuers;
* Preparing underwriting analyses;
* Drafting investment memoranda;
* Assisting in documentation for and participating in investment committee discussions;
* Monitoring corporate and structured private debt investments;
* Attending management meetings and relevant industry conferences;
* Supporting quarterly and annual reporting requirements;
* Assisting with outbound market research and credit rating assessments;
* Building and managing internal databases, including investment pipelines and partners;
* Completing complex analytical projects under tight deadlines.

Additional Qualifications
Additional qualifications and personal attributes may include:

A minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience on the buy- or sell-side within private placements or credit research. Familiarity with the US private placement market is preferred;
* Strong academic credentials: an undergraduate degree in finance, economics, or accounting is preferred;
* Ability to organize, manage, and prioritize tasks effectively;
* Capacity to work independently and make decisions amid uncertainty;
* Meticulous attention to detail: demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills are essential;
* Independence of thought, an entrepreneurial spirit, and a global outlook;
