This role involves performing moderately complex licensing and permitting tasks. Responsibilities include receiving and evaluating applications for licenses and permits, ensuring adherence to relevant policies, administrative codes, and legal statutes. The position requires effective communication with both external and internal stakeholders, as well as the authority to approve applications.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Engage with the public in a professional manner, addressing inquiries related to various types of driver licenses and identification cards, traffic laws, and departmental services.
  2. Assess the legal requirements for applicants seeking driver licenses and identification cards, ensuring compliance through thorough screening of application forms.
  3. Interpret and analyze data from various national systems to evaluate applicant eligibility for licensing.
  4. Input and manage application data, payments, and technical information into relevant computer systems, ensuring accuracy and accountability.
  5. Verify the authenticity of documents submitted by applicants and ensure correct data entry into state records.
  6. Administer tests to applicants, including written and practical driving assessments, while accommodating language needs as necessary.
  7. Provide technical assistance and information regarding licensing requirements to the public and agency staff.
  8. Approve applications based on established regulations and procedures, and administer oaths when required.
  9. Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring all equipment is functional and ready for use.
  10. Attend work regularly and adhere to established work hours in accordance with agency policies.
  11. Perform additional duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education: High school graduation or equivalent, or current enrollment in high school. Minimum age requirement of seventeen (17) years.

Experience: At least one year of experience in an office, volunteer, or customer service role. Cash handling experience is preferred.

Licensure: A valid Texas driver license is required, or a valid out-of-state license with the expectation of obtaining a Texas license within the designated timeframe.

Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, organizational abilities, and proficiency in technology, including Microsoft Office Suite. Must demonstrate analytical reasoning and attention to detail.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: This position may require working in various environments, including office settings and outdoors. Physical demands include the ability to stand, walk, and lift weights up to fifty (50) pounds.
