We are seeking a highly skilled Licensing Associate to join our team at Stony Brook Medicine. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of technologies, including identifying, evaluating, marketing, and licensing inventions and software developed by SUNY and Research Foundation faculty and staff.
Key Responsibilities- Evaluate the commercial potential of inventions and prepare non-confidential materials
- Develop and implement marketing strategies for each technology
- Draft and negotiate terms of commercialization agreements and other agreements, including options, licenses, material transfer agreements, and confidentiality agreements
- Supervise interns and other junior members of the licensing team
- Occasionally function as an alliance manager on ad-hoc basis for collaborations associated with technologies in their portfolio
- Ensure post-agreement compliance
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer/Software Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or other physical science-related disciplines
- Five years of directly related, full-time technology transfer, technology scouting/assessment, intellectual property licensing, business development experience, and/or related legal experience
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, with strong organizational and time-management skills and exceptional attention to detail
- Adeptness to work independently as well as part of a team with a collaborative approach to problem-solving
- Master's degree in Electrical/Computer/Software Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or other physical science-related disciplines
- MBA or JD (foreign equivalent or higher)
- Two years of full-time experience working in a university Technology Transfer Office or in a business development capacity in industry
- Experience negotiating intellectual property license agreements, successfully negotiating complex agreements, and drafting and reviewing contracts
