Job Summary:

The Licensing Associate will be responsible for managing a portfolio of technologies, including identifying, evaluating, marketing and licensing inventions and software developed by SUNY and Research Foundation faculty and staff. The incumbent will oversee the evaluation of new technologies, engage with potential licensees, develop and review licenses, options and term sheets, and draft and negotiate license agreements. The successful candidate will have excellent customer service and interpersonal skills, exercising strong organizational and time-management skills with an exceptional attention to detail.

Key Responsibilities:

Evaluate the commercial potential of inventions and software developed by SUNY and Research Foundation faculty and staff
Engage with potential licensees to develop and review licenses, options and term sheets
Draft and negotiate license agreements
Oversee the evaluation of new technologies and marketing strategies for each technology
Provide faculty support and education with respect to inventions, intellectual property and office policy and procedure
Manage a portfolio of technologies and post-agreement management activities

Requirements:

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical / Computer / Software Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or other physical science related disciplines. Five (5) years of directly related, full-time technology transfer, technology scouting/assessment, intellectual property licensing, business development experience and/or related legal experience are required. In lieu of five (5) years of experience, a combination of an advanced degree and three (3) years directly related, full-time technology transfer, technology scouting/assessment, intellectual property licensing, business development experience and/or related legal experience equaling five (5) or more years may be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master's degree in Electrical / Computer / Software Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, or other physical science related disciplines is preferred. MBA or JD (foreign equivalent or higher) is also preferred. Two (2) years of full-time experience working in a university Technology Transfer Office or in a business development capacity in industry is preferred. Experience negotiating intellectual property license agreements, drafting and reviewing contracts, and patent prosecution is also preferred.

Working Conditions:

The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
