Department Overview: The Citywide Equity and Inclusion (CEI) division is essential in guiding city agencies to comply with workplace non-discrimination policies and fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce.

Position Overview: As an Investigations and Compliance Officer within the CEI, you will:

  • Build and maintain relationships with agency EEO personnel, offering expert guidance on EEO policies and practices.
  • Evaluate complaints and inquiries from city employees, taking appropriate actions.
  • Oversee complex EEO investigations, ensuring thoroughness and compliance with established mandates.
  • Draft comprehensive investigative reports that articulate findings and recommendations.
  • Lead high-level CEI projects and initiatives.
  • Supervise junior staff and interns as needed.
  • Exercise sound judgment in navigating investigative challenges and liaising with relevant authorities.
  • Conduct reviews of agency EEO practices and ensure compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Analyze citywide trends in EEO data to inform agency practices.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance compliance with EEO regulations.
  • Facilitate training on EEO topics and investigative procedures.
  • Collaborate with legal and human resources teams on compliance matters.
  • Engage in legal research related to EEO issues.
  • Travel as necessary for investigations and training sessions.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required.

Qualifications:

  • Admission to the New York State Bar is required.
  • One year of relevant legal experience or six months as an Agency Attorney Intern.

Preferred Skills:

  • Strong understanding of EEO laws and regulations.
  • Experience in conducting complex investigations.
  • Knowledge of EEO compliance and policy development.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness: Prospective employees may qualify for federal loan forgiveness programs.

Residency Requirement: New York City residency is not mandatory for this position.
