Job Summary:

As a key member of our sanitation team at Champion Foods, the Sanitation Operations Specialist will assist the shift lead in training and supervising sanitation crew members. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring that all sanitation functions and activities are carried out in accordance with state and federal regulations, company policies, and procedures. This includes maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety in our facilities and equipment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Sanitation Operations: Assist the shift lead in ensuring that all sanitation equipment and facilities are clean and conform to regulatory and company guidelines.
  • Training and Development: Complete all required food safety and quality modules on an annual basis or within 15 months from start date. Assist in training and supervising sanitation crew members to ensure they are equipped to perform their duties effectively.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Consult and communicate with the shift lead to ascertain the schedule, tasks, and problems that require immediate attention. Assist with task distribution and completion related to inspections.
  • Quality and Quantity Job Outputs: Assist the shift lead in ensuring quality and quantity job outputs. Ensure that all cleaning schedules and goals are accomplished on time.
  • SSOP Compliance: Follow all instructions and procedures as outlined in the SSOP manual. Motivate other employees to carry out their functions with strict adherence to the SSOPs.
  • Maintenance and Repair: Dismantle, clean, and reassemble complex production line machinery. Assist the shift lead in updating and maintaining detailed cleaning procedures in the plant.
  • Safety and GMPs: Understand and comply with all safety standards and GMPs of the plant. Ensure that employees use safety equipment provided by the company and request replacement of damaged safety supplies.
  • Leadership and Absence Coverage: Assume a lead role when applicable, due to PTO, off-site training, or other such absences.
  • Inventory Management: Assist the Manager in maintaining sanitation inventory by checking stocks of cleaning chemicals and tools, and informing the Manager of supplies needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in food manufacturing sanitation operations or a similar position.
  • Knowledge and Skills: Good knowledge of safety and GMPs, sanitation procedures, and chemical applications. Ability to read, write, and communicate instructions to subordinate sanitation workers and trainees.
  • Physical Demands: Physically able to lift, push, or pull weights over 50lbs, and ability to operate forklifts, scissor lifts, and various cleaning equipment.
  • Work Schedule: Ability to work flexible work shifts, including nights, weekends, overtime, and swing shifts.
  • Professionalism: Conducts themselves in a professional manner, interacts with all departments and workers in a friendly manner, and maintains all company rules and regulations.
Working Conditions:
  • Environmental Conditions: Ability to work in uncomfortable conditions such as hot, cold, wet/humid, dusty, and messy environments.
  • Physical Requirements: Must be able to work on ladders and areas requiring boom lift equipment.
  • Personal Protective Equipment: Requires use of personal protective and/or safety equipment.
