As a Senior Underwriter at The Zenith, you will engage in the solicitation, evaluation, and pricing of business in alignment with the Company's Underwriting Philosophy. Your responsibilities will include:
- Overseeing a designated portfolio of Agencies while contributing to the formulation and execution of agency business strategies.
- Exercising greater autonomy, particularly in leading the development of agency business plans.
- Managing a collection of individual accounts while ensuring pricing integrity amidst market fluctuations.
- Establishing yourself as a workers' compensation authority among assigned agencies.
- Facilitating account-related activities across various departments for your assigned portfolio.
- Supporting the growth and mentorship of both support and professional staff.
- Potentially conducting training sessions for support and professional personnel.
- Engaging in external marketing initiatives (such as agency visits, meetings, and Point of Sale discussions) to effectively communicate the unique advantages of The Zenith.
- Providing general oversight and direction to support teams and underwriting personnel.
- Actively participating in face-to-face discussions with agencies and/or clients.
- While operating within your assigned Letter of Authority, you are encouraged to seek guidance on complex exposures, challenges, or issues.
- Your work will be periodically reviewed by supervisors, corporate underwriting, and/or direct stakeholders.
- Utilizing logical reasoning to identify problems, gather data, establish facts, and draw sound conclusions.
- Responding constructively to feedback and performance evaluations.
- Maintaining a consistently professional demeanor.
- Carrying out additional responsibilities as assigned.
- High School Diploma or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- A Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience is also required.
- A minimum of 4 years of experience in workers' compensation underwriting is required.
- Comprehensive knowledge of workers' compensation policies and underwriting regulations.
- Familiarity with The Zenith's underwriting philosophy is advantageous.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills are essential (including the ability to determine the appropriate communication method).
- Proven presentation and negotiation capabilities are required.
- Ability to construct compelling verbal or written arguments for all stakeholders (agents, peers, insured parties).
- Strong mathematical and reading proficiency is necessary.
- Proficiency in computer applications is required.
- A valid Driver's License in good standing is mandatory.
The anticipated salary range for this role is $99,936.65 to $124,000. Actual compensation will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law.
