Job Summary

The Policy Advisor supports API in public policy advocacy and analysis, strategic communications, and research work. Provides subject matter expertise and support for API's priorities and programs. Engages in planning related to specific API policies, programs, and/or projects. Manages ongoing work through member committees and coordinates with API Communications, Legal, and Government Affairs departments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develops and implements API policy positions and provides ongoing support to API committees related to the Endangered Species Act (ESA) in coordination with API members and management.
  • Critically assesses potential approaches to regulations, legislation and policies in assigned issues based upon API policy positions and develops advocacy materials such as written comments or talking points through coordination with API staff and member companies.
  • Provides member input and technical expertise to other API management and functions including advocacy support and messaging review.
  • Supports budget setting and management of budget for projects in assigned policy areas.
  • Establishes and maintains contact with the appropriate government representatives and stakeholders to pursue opportunities to promote the industry's policies and positions. Represents API as appropriate before stakeholders and decision makers.
  • Supports the development of new TEP performance programs and/or operational practices that participating companies can implement to mitigate impacts to the environment.
  • Supports organization, planning, content development and onsite preparations for successful execution of TEP workshops, meetings, and conferences.
  • Manages TEP participating company annual reporting, data review, and analyses for annual report. Organize and process data and metrics for TEP annual report.
  • Supports content development and strategic communications for TEP materials to promote the program through digital and social media.
  • Manages website content and updates to reflect company participation; manages program e-mail communications from general public engagement.
  • Establishes and maintains contact with the appropriate stakeholders to pursue opportunities to promote and grow the program.
  • Represents TEP, as appropriate, before stakeholders and decision makers.
  • Responds to requests from API staff, participating company representatives, other industry representatives and the public related to the activities of TEP.
  • Executes administrative tasks or general needs, as needed, for successful implementation and management of The Partnership.
Requirements
  • 5-8 years of experience in a similar role and subject matter expertise.
  • Bachelor's degree in relevant area or other related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Knowledge of industry, trade associations, and/or energy-related regulatory/legislative issues as well as public issue advocacy strategies and the regulatory development process is required.
  • Some knowledge of the oil and natural gas industry's upstream and midstream segment operations, endangered species and/or global/national greenhouse gas emission inventories and initiatives/opportunities to reduce emissions associated with the oil and natural gas industry is preferred.
  • Demonstrated skills working with diverse professional, business, and government representatives.
  • Attention to detail, exceptional organization and prioritization skills required.
  • Initiative and ability to work both independently and collegially with others in the department, across the organization and with member company representatives are essential.
  • Excellent communications (written, verbal and graphical), planning, organizational and analytical skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong team player.
Physical Requirements
  • Able to remain in a stationary position working on a computer.
  • Move about the office to access office machinery, meeting rooms, etc. on occasion.
  • Operate a computer and other office machinery such as printers and copy machines.
  • Transport items and equipment up to 10 lbs. on occasion.
Travel Requirements
  • Approximately 10% but may vary based on individual job needs and function.
