Position Summary:

The Procurement and Supply Specialist series encompasses professional roles responsible for ensuring the adequate supply of materials, equipment, and services to a State department or large agency with significant purchasing needs. This role typically involves purchasing responsibilities, along with storage, distribution, and inventory management.

Qualifications:

To qualify, candidates must meet the following criteria:

  • Education: A bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Specialized Experience: A minimum of one and a half (1 1/2) years of progressively responsible experience in purchasing, which includes working with users and vendors to identify and specify requirements for products, materials, equipment, or services.

This experience should demonstrate knowledge of documentation requirements for formal purchases, an understanding of common purchasing resources, and familiarity with purchasing methods and practices.

Key Responsibilities:

The Procurement and Supply Specialist III must have at least six (6) months of experience in either of the following:

  • Developing specifications for formal bids and updating existing specifications.
  • Conducting research and studies on products to make informed purchasing recommendations.

Additionally, candidates must possess experience demonstrating:

  • Knowledge of purchasing methods and techniques.
  • Ability to interview users and vendors regarding requirements.
  • Ability to conduct research on unique user needs and product characteristics.
  • Ability to evaluate user needs and recommend appropriate products.
  • Ability to foresee potential issues in purchasing agreements and recommend necessary terms and conditions.
  • Familiarity with storage, distribution, and inventory maintenance related to purchasing.
Supervisory Skills:

Applicants must demonstrate supervisory aptitude through successful completion of assignments involving supervisory responsibilities or training in supervision.

Additional Requirements:

Some positions may require a valid driver's license, the ability to lift and carry objects of various weights, and certification as a competent operator of electric, gas, and propane-powered forklifts within six months of hire.
