The Logistics Manager is responsible for providing functional guidance to employees regarding the planning and support of operations, specifically transportation of freight. The Manager ensures compliance with all applicable laws, government regulations, and company policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide project support and communication planning as needed.
  • Provide transportation guidance to Logistics Supervisors and Managers in operations, managing workflow/task execution and integrating all functions to their respective site.
  • Implement and ensure compliance to Logistics Standard Operating Procedures (SOP). Ensure all training and adherence to these policies and/or report any non-conformances or corrections.
  • Ensure and properly manage all documentation and reports, ensuring all are processed in a timely manner for reporting or billing.
  • Ensure dedicated carrier selection for optimal efficiency, proper carrier communication, and timely communication to customers.
  • Point of contact for Carriers and proactively follow up regularly to build relationships.
  • Regular reviews and meetings with the accounting department to discuss cost reporting concerns.
  • Monitor incoming emails from customers, ensuring timely responses from local teams.
  • Documentation of comments, communication, and follow-up via email and telephone to ensure carrier performance meets customer expectations.
  • Monitor and record carrier performance and failures. Work closely with all operations managers and General Managers to continually improve processes, carrier selection, and services.
  • Negotiate terms and rates for shippers and carriers required to move cargo in the absence of carrier contracts or systems.
  • Must be able to exercise discretion and good judgment, with an ability to understand the effect of decisions overall in the company.
  • Will evaluate and measure employee performance and help develop their skills to meet expectations.
  • Troubleshoot issues that may arise during shipment.
  • Will provide optimum customer service and lead by example in all aspects of job responsibilities.
  • Will create a positive environment for employees and co-workers and help maintain morale.
  • Step in when necessary in the absence of key individuals in the department to keep operations running.
  • On call 24/7 for emergencies, staffing concerns, etc.
  • Travel may be up to 50%.
Requirements
  • Degree in a related field or 5+ years of equivalent experience in transportation or logistics, including customer processing, route delivery procedures, and basic security and operational procedures, transportation, logistics, brokerage, and/or 3PL environments.
  • Must have 2+ years of experience in a manager/supervisor or lead position in Traffic or a related field.
  • Understanding of DOT rules and regulations, vehicle weight capacity, and load specs, etc.
  • Ability to work graveyard hours, weekends, holidays, and OT - flexibility of schedule is a must.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, with experience in coaching, counseling, and conflict resolution.
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to manage stress in self and others within a fast-paced environment, adapting readily to change.
