Position Description:
The Gevirtz School of Education at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) is dedicated to fostering equitable educational systems and practices, guided by core values such as equity, evidence, excellence, community, critical thinking, and compassion.
We are looking to appoint a part-time instructor for the upcoming academic year to teach a graduate-level statistics course.
This position is contingent upon funding availability, and additional courses may be assigned as necessary to address temporary openings.
Teaching Responsibilities:
We seek a highly qualified instructor capable of teaching within the School's doctoral program. The ideal candidate will possess the skills to effectively engage a diverse student body in a minority-serving institution, demonstrating racial literacies and culturally responsive teaching practices.
The selected individual will be responsible for instructing the Multivariate Statistics course (ED 216A), which caters to graduate students in Education and Clinical, Counseling, and School Psychology.
Course topics will encompass applied statistical modeling techniques for multivariate data and its graphical representation, including but not limited to:
- Measures of central tendency, variance, and associations of multivariate data
- Multivariate normal distributions and their implications in applied modeling
- Data reduction techniques such as principal component analysis, canonical correlations, cluster analysis, discriminant analysis, MANOVA, and repeated measures designs
The teaching methodology should be accessible to students in applied social sciences, emphasizing the selection of appropriate methods for multivariate data analysis, model execution, result interpretation, and presentation.
The focus will be on applying multivariate statistical methods in educational and psychological research.
General Duties/Responsibilities:
The responsibilities will include comprehensive course preparation and delivery, which encompasses lectures, exam preparation and grading, office hours, student advising, and oversight of teaching assistants or readers, if assigned.

Qualifications:
Basic qualifications (required at time of application):
A Master's degree in Education or a related field.
Additional qualifications (required at time of start):
A minimum of five years of demonstrated teaching experience in Education or a related field.
Preferred qualifications:
Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education or a related field, with a strong preference for candidates with a background in quantitative methods training or coursework.
Expertise in teaching quantitative research methods and applied statistics courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels in higher education institutions is highly desirable.
