Position Overview:

We are seeking a skilled Fiber Technician to join our team. This role is crucial for the installation and maintenance of fiber optic systems within our data center environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Cabling & Termination:

  • Perform basic copper termination and possess essential skills in fiber optic installation.
  • Mount and install racks, patch panels, and fiber optic hardware, ensuring proper grounding.
  • Conduct testing procedures including continuity tests and troubleshooting issues in horizontal and riser cables.
  • Install various types of connectors such as LC, SC, ST, FC, FDDI, SMA, and MPO/MTP for both multimode and single-mode fiber.
  • Terminate simplex and duplex jumper cords, as well as outdoor and indoor fiber cables.
  • Calculate end-to-end loss budgets in compliance with TIA/EIA standards.
  • Complete all necessary documentation accurately and punctually.

Testing:

  • Utilize OTDR, Fluke, and EFXO for testing fiber optic systems.
  • Identify and rectify network-wide issues using OTDR troubleshooting techniques.

Splicing:

  • Execute mechanical and fusion splicing for all fiber cable types.
  • Perform splicing in various environments including building entrances and maintenance spaces.

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Demonstrate self-motivation and professionalism while promoting company culture.
  • Possess strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities.
  • Ability to work at heights and in confined spaces, lift heavy objects, and distinguish colors.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Proficiency in terminating all connector types for SMF and MMF systems.
  • Experience with testing and troubleshooting fiber systems.
  • Preferred 3-5 years of relevant experience and industry certifications.
  • Familiarity with the tools required for fiber optic installation.
