As a Licensed Vocational Nurse with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care in a correctional facility setting. This position requires a strong commitment to delivering safe and competent care to patients, working collaboratively with a registered nurse as part of a total correctional managed health care team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Reporting data and identifying patient responses to assist in problem identification and goal formulation
  • Performing physical assessments and preparing necessary equipment and instruments for examinations, treatments, and procedures
  • Assisting with or performing exams and procedures, documenting intervention in the electronic medical record
  • Administering or assisting with medication administration and documentation
  • Maintaining patient medical records in the electronic medical record by noting orders, clearing reminders, charting events, and transcribing orders

In addition to these responsibilities, you will also assist in admissions and discharges, incoming and outgoing chains, and call doctors when needed. Required qualifications include a current Vocational Nurse License in the State of Texas, or ability to transfer license to Texas, or scheduled to complete a program of vocational nursing within 120 days of applying for a position. Current CPR certification and graduation from an approved accredited nursing program are also required. New graduates must pass the National Council Licensure Examination for Practical Nurses (NCLEX-PN) on the first attempt.
