Overview
As a proficient Lead Mechanic at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, you will play a crucial role in overseeing the installation, upkeep, and functionality of all electrical systems within the powerhouse. Your leadership will extend to supervising skilled tradespeople and assistants in their daily responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage in and supervise the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical circuits, transformers, machinery, and associated equipment.
- Direct and manage the activities of journeymen and helpers, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and quality assurance standards.
- Oversee clearances for electrical circuits, provide first aid when necessary, and enforce compliance with safety regulations.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain responsibility for the custody and care of all electrical maintenance tools.
- Conduct maintenance and repairs on electrical systems in motor vehicles.
- Perform any other tasks as assigned by management.
Work Environment
Work may be conducted in various weather conditions within the powerhouse facilities, involving mechanical equipment and exposure to elevated noise levels.
Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Comprehensive understanding of electrical trade practices, codes, and safety regulations.
- Familiarity with the mechanisms of hydroelectric generating plants.
- Capability to install and repair powerhouse equipment, interpret electrical schematics, and effectively supervise others.
- Proficient in the use and maintenance of electrical tools and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must possess a minimum of five years of experience in hydroelectric plant operations or comparable high-voltage plant environments.
Promotional Criteria
- At least one year of prior experience as a Powerhouse Mechanic within the District.
- Civil service status as a Powerhouse Mechanic.
