Fairborn, Ohio, United States Curtiss-Wright Full time

Position Overview:
As a Lead Mechanical Design Engineer, you will engage in a variety of analytical and design tasks related to manufacturing engineering initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:
You will create, implement, and uphold methods, operational sequences, and processes for the production or fabrication of parts, components, sub-assemblies, and final assemblies. Collaboration with design engineering will be essential in managing the launch of new products. You will provide insights for tooling and process necessities for both new and existing product lines.

Your responsibilities will also include evaluating quality metrics to identify root causes and maintaining records and reporting systems for the synchronization of manufacturing operations. You will oversee support personnel in the preparation of detailed designs, design testing, and prototype fabrication. Additionally, you will supply design information to drafting for packaging documentation, which encompasses thermal analysis and the application of various analytical/modeling tools. Your ability to draw conclusions and reconcile discrepancies between predicted and actual outcomes will be crucial.

Qualifications:
3D CAD and mechanical design expertise is required, with SolidWorks experience being highly preferred. A minimum of 5 years in advanced design of mechanical/electromechanical assemblies is essential, preferably within the embedded industry. At least 3 years of product design experience is also necessary.

Experience in designing sheet metal, machined parts, cable assemblies, and harnesses is expected. A working knowledge of fasteners, press-in hardware, adhesives, and assembly techniques is important. Familiarity with materials such as aluminum, plastics, and copper, as well as finishes like anodizing, painting, and plating, is advantageous.

Basic understanding of structural and fluid dynamics, along with thermal and airflow calculations, is required. Knowledge in designing for thermal, vibration, and shock applications is essential, particularly for military product design. Familiarity with MIL standards is strongly preferred.

Experience with high-volume production methods, including injection molding, thermoforming, and casting, is desirable. Proficiency in cable harnesses, wiring, and cable management products, along with the ability to specify or select wire sizes, types, terminals, and crimping requirements, is necessary. Knowledge of UL requirements for the safety of electronic assemblies is a plus.

Who We Are:

Our products are designed to deliver critical core computing and networking technologies for various applications, including ground vehicles, aircraft, missiles, sensors, launch vehicles, and spacecraft.
