Job Title: Teacher of the Visually Impaired

Powell County Schools is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher of the Visually Impaired to join our team. As a member of our special education department, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality instruction and support to students with visual impairments.

Job Summary:

The Teacher of the Visually Impaired will be responsible for developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments. This includes creating and delivering instruction that meets the unique needs of each student, as well as collaborating with other educators and support staff to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement IEPs for students with visual impairments
  • Provide instruction and support to students in a variety of settings, including classrooms, resource rooms, and other educational environments
  • Collaborate with other educators and support staff to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive learning environment
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and other stakeholders to ensure that students receive the support they need to succeed
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices and research in the field of visual impairment and special education
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Special Education (VI) or related field
  • Valid Kentucky Teacher of the Visually Impaired Certificate
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and other stakeholders
  • Ability to work collaboratively with other educators and support staff
  • Ability to stay up-to-date with best practices and research in the field of visual impairment and special education
Working Conditions:

The Teacher of the Visually Impaired will work in a variety of settings, including classrooms, resource rooms, and other educational environments. The position requires the ability to lift, carry, push or pull light to heavy weights, as well as assist students with self-care, including diapering, toileting, bathing, dressing, and etc.

Evaluation:

The Teacher of the Visually Impaired will be evaluated annually on their job performance and professional growth. The evaluation will be based on a combination of factors, including student progress, lesson plans, and professional development activities.
